Shandong Jinlun’s Rotary Cutting Technology for OSB Strands Achieves International Leadership

On December 18, 2022, Shandong Jinlun Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd.'s " Rotary Cutting-Based Technologies and Machinery for OSB Strands Production " passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by the China Forestry Machinery Association. The expert committee unanimously determined that the overall technology of this achievement has reached the international leading level.

The meeting invited 11 experts, including Researcher Lu Bin, Deputy Director of the Wood Industry Institute at the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Professor Sheng Zhenxiang, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Forestry Machinery Association and Secretary-General of the Association's Wood-Based Panel Machinery Branch, Professor Liu Jiuqing, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Northeast Forestry University, Professor Li Li of Beijing Forestry University, Professor Wang Baojin of Nanjing Forestry University, and Professor Zhang Zhongtao, Director of the Industrial Institute of the Institute of Industrial Development and Planning of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, to form an appraisal committee. The appraisal was organized via video conference.

At the meeting, the experts listened carefully to and reviewed the technical report of the project development, watched the product operation video, and after questioning and commenting, they unanimously determined that the achievement was based on the spindle-less veneer peeling method, and innovatively proposed the peeling method for preparing OSB Strands. The hydraulic composite elastic feeding technology of the outer circle peeling screw was developed, and the support roller follow-up and automatic alignment system were combined with the peeling and breaking integrated structure to achieve the high-efficiency preparation of irregular logs into fixed-thickness OSB Strands. The single-row hydraulic buffer mechanism and the proportional following technology of the buffer pressure were adopted to solve the needs of logs of different diameters and different tree species for the change of rotary cutting pressure, and effectively solve the problem of knife jumping at the end of rotary cutting. The hydraulic pressure knife and knife door quick lifting mechanism, the bearing automatic temperature measurement damage warning and automatic lubrication system, the single and double roller ring knife and the ring knife split disassembly structure were developed to improve the stability of equipment operation and maintenance efficiency. As of December 2022, the project has obtained 1 invention patent and 10 utility model patents, and formulated 1 enterprise standard.

Shandong Jinlun Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is one of the backbone enterprises specializing in the production of plywood peeling machines in my country. Shandong Jinlun OSB Strands peeling machine is suitable for peeling logs with a diameter of 100-500mm. The maximum peeling speed is 260m/min, and the normal speed is 160-180m/min. The 2900 type equipment has an hourly output of 5-6 tons, and the 4200 type equipment has an hourly output of 8-9 tons. The logs can be peeled into relatively small remaining wood cores (about 30-60mm in diameter), which greatly improves the utilization rate of wood.

The experts at this meeting also conducted comparative analysis on the preparation of OSB Strands by peeling, long material Strands and the "two-stage" method, and had a clearer understanding of the adaptability of raw materials, utilization rate, Strands morphology and product requirements, equipment maintenance, process layout, investment cost and production capacity benefits. The application of the three methods has its own characteristics. The preparation of OSB Strands by peeling is another successful technical practice of Chinese enterprises' complete independent innovation.
